Naples: Pizza, Vesuvius & Pompeii

A couple of months ago we went on a trip to Naples. Yes – I admit: I have been lazy again with blogging. Now I want to catch up before embarking on the next trip…

Naples had been on my „wish list“ for long time already. I’ve always wanted to see Vesuvius, explore Pompeii and eat the best pizza of Italy (and therefore: of the world!?). We managed to do all this and a little more in the 3 days we had, even though 3 days were a little short for the region – there is just so much more to see and do! To see everything properly, I would recommend staying for at least a week.

Unfortunately the first day was a bit grey and rainy-ish, which was OK for sightseeing in the city since you always end up going inside in between.

Athens – between old ruins and cypresses

I spent Easter this year in Athens – another city trip by myself, something I like to do now and then. My outbound flight was not at the best time unfortunately, meaning that I arrived at 2.30 am at the hotel and fell directly into my hotel bed. After a very short sleep I woke up early to go visit Acropolis before the hordes of tourists would be there. And it was definitely worth it: not many people and a magnificent morning atmosphere – perfect for taking pictures.

I strolled around between the old ruins on the Acropolis Hill and watched Athens waking up slowly and rising out of the morning mist. mehr lesen…

Endlich mal nach Edinburgh!

I’ve been wanting to take a trip to Edinburgh for a looong time and this year in September I finally did it! I have to admit that in that moment I didn’t feel like taking a city trip: I had a lot to do around the house and we were heading to South Africa soon anyways. But at the end of the day, of course, I am glad I went. I was extremely surprised by all the things Edinburgh has to offer.

This time I had booked a bed in a girls-only dorm at a hostel near the center on Queen Street. Everyone was kind of keeping to themselves, but at least we enjoyed a respectful atmosphere and there were no snorers, etc. (memories from Madrid…)

As I only had two days in the city, my schedule was packed. On Saturday morning I went to Calton Hill, which turned out to be the right decision. I had a wonderful view over Edinburgh, perfect light for pictures and I had time to peacefully enjoy my breakfast muffin, before groups of tourists would show up.

Afterwards I went to visit The Scottish Parliament, where you can enter for free. What a modern and fancy building that is! The Holyrood Palace is just right next to it, but I skipped that one. I have seen too many palaces in the past years 😉
