Winter Weekend in Luxembourg

A couple of weeks ago it was time to claim my birthday voucher: A road trip to Luxembourg was therefore on the agenda! 🙂 Unfortunately we had chosen the worst weekend for a long drive by car: Thick snowfall in big parts of the Netherlands forced us to drive rather slowly. All that without winter tires! But we did arrive in the end… Our first stop was Esch-Sauer, a little village in the West of Luxembourg.

Esch-Sauer has a very pretty setting at a river bend and showcases a photogenic castle ruin build on a rocky hill. You can climb up there in 10 min via some stairs and enjoy the beautiful view of the surroundings.

Endlich mal nach Edinburgh!

I’ve been wanting to take a trip to Edinburgh for a looong time and this year in September I finally did it! I have to admit that in that moment I didn’t feel like taking a city trip: I had a lot to do around the house and we were heading to South Africa soon anyways. But at the end of the day, of course, I am glad I went. I was extremely surprised by all the things Edinburgh has to offer.

This time I had booked a bed in a girls-only dorm at a hostel near the center on Queen Street. Everyone was kind of keeping to themselves, but at least we enjoyed a respectful atmosphere and there were no snorers, etc. (memories from Madrid…)

As I only had two days in the city, my schedule was packed. On Saturday morning I went to Calton Hill, which turned out to be the right decision. I had a wonderful view over Edinburgh, perfect light for pictures and I had time to peacefully enjoy my breakfast muffin, before groups of tourists would show up.

Afterwards I went to visit The Scottish Parliament, where you can enter for free. What a modern and fancy building that is! The Holyrood Palace is just right next to it, but I skipped that one. I have seen too many palaces in the past years 😉

Summer weekend in Bologna & Rimini

This year I had planned to take a city trip on my birthday and go somewhere warm, where the sun is shining. Delicious food would also be nice. So it basically came down to Italy! Unfortunately, Mid-August is high season and cities like Florence and Naples (on my wish list for a very long time) were too busy. This is why we had decided to go to Bologna! I didn’t know much about the city, but a quick Google image search revealed that it was a nice enough city to justify going there. So we booked and went to Bologna!

Bologna is a beautiful city, most houses are colored in an earthy brown. Somehow it has a medieval touch to it. Note: I can recommend Bologna under any kind of weather conditions, as
